LOCALS READY TO GO

New Paltz - Two local firefighters are on standby alert to join international efforts to fight a raging fire outside of Haifa, Israel.

Scott Schulte and Roger Thorpe Jr. are part of a five man team who trained in Israel last summer to help fellow firefighters in the event of military attacks.

Butch Dener, who organized the training said Friday evening, "They've got their bags packed and are ready to go."  Dener said their involvement would be based on the country's assessment of its needs.

"The call could come as early as Saturday morning, or as late as early next week" , he said.

The New Paltz Heroes For Israel were honored with a Community Award from the Jewish Federation of Ulster County tonight in Kingston, NY. They all attended the Federation's Annual Dinner, and accepted the award in person to a standing ovation, and were thanked and hugged by a grateful community. They were able to thank the Federation for their support as well, in our fundraising efforts. Scott Schulte spoke, and memorably noted that they are all now part of the Nation of Israel, and Israel is a part of them, forever.

The presentation of the award can be viewed here:

We thank all of you for making the training trip possible and hope you will enjoy this film.
